The poll conducted by Campo Grande News revealed that the majority of readers, 82%, do not agree that adult female daughters of deceased soldiers receive a lifetime pension from the Federal Government.

The issue was highlighted again after senators sent a suggestion to the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), for the benefit to be revoked.

In the country, the payment of lifetime pension for daughters of military personnel who are not married began in 1960. However, in 2001, the measure was revoked, but those who already received the benefit previously and remain single, continue to receive it.

Over the years, the benefit has cost billions for the Federal Government coffers. According to data, in 2020, BRL 19.3 billion were spent on paying benefits to all types of dependents, including single daughters, widows and disabled children.

However, the CGU (Controladoria-Geral da União) discovered in March of this year that 4 thousand women received a total of R$ 3 billion per year, by defrauding the rules by remaining “single” on paper, even though they had formed a family, so that could continue to receive the value.

In addition to married women, many are civil servants, a situation that leads to loss of benefit, according to the law.
