Mumbai: Former Indian opener and captain who led Mumbai to Ranji Trophy victory Sudhir Naik (78) passed away. He died in a private hospital in Mumbai. He died while undergoing treatment after falling and falling at his house in Dadar.
He played three Tests and two ODIs for India in 1974. Sudhir is the player who scored the first boundary for India in ODIs on England soil. It was in Headingley, Leeds in 1974. He led Mumbai to the Ranji Trophy victory in 1971.
He has scored 4376 runs from 85 first-class matches. Sudhir was also the coach of former players Zaheer Khan and Wasim Jaffer. He was also the Chief Curator of Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium for a long time. He was the one who prepared the pitch for the World Cup in 2011 when India won the title.
