Italian playwright of the 18th century. Carlo Goldoni is not an accidental author for Konstantin Raikin. One of his most famous film roles is Truffaldino in the film “Truffaldino from Bergamo” based on the play “The Servant of Two Masters”. And the very tradition of commedia dell’arte, on which the playwright relied (and also reformed it, translating types into characters and equipping improvised action with a literary basis), is the source that invariably feeds the aesthetics of “Satyricon”.
The plot is quite simple. Several resourceful women help the young lovers reunite. Moreover, they themselves suffer under the yoke of “tyrants” – their husbands – no less than their wards. Everything happens on the last day of the Venetian carnival, at the end of untried joy. Their spouses do not encourage such entertainment. In a word, love and freedom are trying to get out from under rudeness, enslavement and stupid rules.
