The state government presented a bill in the Legislative Assembly, this Wednesday (23) that could reduce the fare for intercity travel from 4.5% to 2%.

The reduction of half of the amount charged by Agems (State Regulatory Agency of Mato Grosso do Sul) was only possible after analysis by CITI (Center for Technical Integration and Intelligence).

According to the director of Transport at the agency, Matias Gonsales, the change occurred because previously the company itself that carried out the service informed the number of printed tickets.

“Through the numbers that reached CITI, we saw that the numbers in practice were not a reality. We analyzed how reasonable the percentage would be with real values and increased our base, ”she explained.

It is worth noting that the new percentage is based on the agency’s inspection rate. Companies will continue to pay the ICMS (Tax on Operations relating to the Circulation of Goods and Services) of 7%.

“If approved, it will be beneficial for intercity transport. Agems and Sefaz (Secretary of State for Finance) will start to collect more and not less. There will be tariff review and a reasonable cost to travel”.

Matias added that there will be no economic impact for the State, as ICMS will continue to be paid by companies. The proposal will follow for analysis by the commissions of the House of Laws in the coming days.
