Kiel (AP) – After the weak start to the season, coach Ole Werner surprisingly resigned from the second division football team Holstein Kiel.
“After careful consideration, I decided to no longer be the head coach of KSV Holstein,” said Werner in a statement from the Schleswig-Holstein club published on Monday evening.
After more than 15 years in the club, this step is very difficult for him, but he still considers it the right and necessary one. 33-year-old Werner had previously successfully looked after the Kiel U23 team, and since mid-September 2019 he has been the head coach. Co-trainer Dirk Bremser is the provisional successor to the almost Bundesliga club.
Last season, the Kiel team only failed in their relegation to the Bundesliga at 1. FC Köln. This season they have only won one of the first seven games. Uwe Stöver, Managing Director Sport of the KSV, explained: “In the past two days we, my person and the entire Presidium, have nevertheless tried in personal conversations to convince him of the opposite and to continue on the path we have chosen.
