The second division ice hockey team from Crimmitschau scored two points on Friday evening. Too many chances were missed in regular time.
Crimmitschau Strong nerves in the penalty shootout and insecure in the victory dance: This is how André Schietzold from the ice hockey second division Eispiraten Crimmitschau presented himself on Friday evening in the artificial ice stadium in the Sahnpark. With his successful attempt, the 34-year-old secured the 2: 1 (1: 0, 0: 1, 0: 0, 1: 0) victory after a penalty shoot-out against the Heilbronner Falken. When the 1545 spectators demanded a dance, the winning goal scorer stumbled briefly on the ice. Goalkeeper Luka Gracnar fended off all four guest penalties.
In the first half hour, the home side dominated the action. Scott Feser gave the Ice Pirates the lead in the eleventh minute. The German-American grabbed the disc in his own third and marched – without being attacked by an opponent – over half the ice surface. Feser hit with a placed shot. His teammates, on the other hand, missed other good opportunities: Thore Weyrauch (13th) and Luca Gläser (25th) each failed from close range. In the 29th minute cracks and fans of the ice pirates cheered too early. The referees refused recognition for a goal from Willy Rudert, who was able to deflect a Weyrauch shot. The reason for the (correct) decision: The puck was on the blue line just out of the attack third, making it an offside situation. The guests from Heilbronn used one of the few clear chances to equalize in the 37th minute. Brock Maschmeyer, who still wore the ice pirate jersey in the 2017/18 season, was successful with a shot into the far corner from the half-left position. The hard rubber washer went from the post into the goal. In a broken last third there were good chances on both sides. Filip Reisnecker (41st) and Vincent Schlenker (45th) awarded for Crimmitschau, Luca Tosto (52nd) for the even better guests from Heilbronn in the final phase. Both teams then went into extra time and then into the penalty shootout.
On Sunday (from 4 p.m.) the ice pirates have to compete with the Tigers Bayreuth away from home. The Tigers weren’t in action on Friday night. The reason: Your game with the Selber Wölfen was canceled because there were several positive corona cases in the ranks of the opponent. This is the first time that a game in DEL 2 has been canceled this season.
