Objective: to raise awareness of the risks associated with the consumption of certain molecules during pregnancy.
You are pregnant? Do not be surprised if your pharmacist offers you a meeting of a few minutes to talk to you about medication. Since last Monday, these health professionals have been invited to make pregnant women aware of the dangers that the consumption of certain molecules represents for the fetus.
Indeed, in pregnant women more than in any other person, the risk-benefit ratio must be carefully assessed before administering a drug. Clearly, the less medication a pregnant woman takes, the less risk she runs of harming her future child. However, the figures are alarming: during her pregnancy, a woman will be prescribed a dozen drugs. “French women would take more medication during their pregnancy than women in other European countries, without this being explained by any particular pathologies”says the Dr Élisabeth Elefant, expert at the Reference Center for Teratogenic Agents (Crat).
