/ The Jordanian Chamber of Commerce announced on Thursday that Iraq came first as the largest importer of commercial goods during the past year 2023.

The chamber said in a statement seen by Agency, “Goods and commodities were exported to Arab and foreign countries last year, 2023, at approximately 1.433 billion Jordanian dinars, compared to 883 million Jordanian dinars for the same period last year.”

She indicated that “Iraq came first as the Arab country that imported the most from Jordan in terms of the value of imported goods during the past year 2023, which amounted to 639 million Jordanian dinars, followed by the UAE with 194 million Jordanian dinars, then Saudi Arabia with 98 million dinars, and Egypt fifth with 97 million Jordanian dinars.” And Switzerland 92 million dinars.

The statement indicated that “the Amman Chamber of Commerce issues certificates of origin for agricultural and animal products, raw Jordanian natural resources, and for foreign goods that are being re-exported,” noting that “the certificates of origin that went to Iraq amounted to 2,232 certificates.”

Jordanian Trade explained that “the value of foreign product exports (re-exports) amounted to 607 million Jordanian dinars, then industrial products worth 201 million dinars, Arab products about 189 million dinars, agricultural products about 175 million dinars, and the rest for many different other products.”

100 US dollars are equal to about 70 Jordanian dinars.

It is noteworthy that Iraq imports most goods and merchandise from neighboring countries, especially Turkey and Iran, after Jordan was a large market for it in the 1990s during the period of the economic blockade that was imposed on the country.
