/ The head of the Basra Football Sub-Federation, Badr Nasser, revealed on Saturday the reason for not opening the Olympic Port Stadium (30,000 spectators) yet despite its completion.
Nasser told Agency, “The reason for not opening Al Mina Stadium despite its completion is the executing company’s demand for the remaining dues owed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, amounting to two billion Iraqi dinars.”
He added, “The Ministry of Youth and Sports promised to pay the financial obligations, especially after the company completed the stadium’s belongings,” adding: “The stadium is ready with all its systems, including ground, stands, and training fields.”
The head of the Football Sub-Federation explained, “It is hoped that the stadium will host Football Stars League matches in the coming rounds after the financial dues are delivered.”
At the beginning of this year, Al Mina Stadium, along with the Trunk of Palm Stadium, hosted matches from the 25th Gulf Championship with the participation of eight Gulf teams.
