Fatmi became part of RJD

After that, he became angry and contested elections from Madhubani Lok Sabha on BSP ticket. Although Fatmi lost that election. After that he joined JDU but he never felt comfortable in JDU. Due to which he had to face opposition from National President Lalan Singh in the JDU executive meeting. Since then it was being speculated that he would resign from the party.

Ali Ashraf Fatmi won the 1991 Lok Sabha elections on Janata Dal ticket. But after this, in 1996 and 1998, Janata Dal changed to RJD. Ali Asraf Fatmi retained the victory. In 1999, Kirti Azad, son of former Chief Minister Bhagwat Jha Azad and former cricketer, became MP of Darbhanga for the first time by winning the election on BJP ticket and that time too Ali Asraf Fatmi had to face defeat. Ali Asraf Fatmi again won the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and 2009 on RJD ticket. After winning the elections, this time he was made the Union Minister of State for Education in the Central Government. RJD rejected Fatmi in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Now once again he has joined RJD
