A maid at an apart-hotel located in the Leblon neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro, registered this Friday (8) a complaint of racial insult against Marcos José Pieroni dos Santos, generating confusion involving the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira .
The offenses allegedly occurred after the employee refused to open a room without due authorization.
The offenses reported by the chambermaid include insults such as “dirty black” and questions about his appearance as a thief directed at Marcos José Pieroni dos Santos.
“You are a dirty black woman. That’s what you are: a dirty black woman. This hotel has to protect itself from you, you black people”, said Marcos, according to a statement given by the chambermaid.
A woman, who was in the hallway when the confusion occurred, helped the maid and testified on her behalf.
The chambermaid reported the incident to the building management, who called the police to investigate the case. However, when the police arrived at the building, Marcos had already left.
Confusion with minister
An initial confusion involved the association of the apartment with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira. The chambermaid mentioned Vieira’s name at the police station, but subsequent investigations ruled out any involvement by the minister in the incident.
Analysis of security cameras and investigations pointed to Marcos José as the individual involved in the case. The time of the incident was recorded at around 11:30 am.
The minister categorically denied the accusations of racial slurs, claiming not to have been to the apartment in question for approximately two months.
He stated that, at the time of the incident, he was giving an interview in another apartment in Copacabana, accompanied by advisors.
Images from security cameras corroborate the minister’s version, confirming that the man accused by the chambermaid was not Mauro Vieira.
