Mid America Pet Food Recall: Over 25 Types of Dog Food and 6 Types of Cat Food Recalled Due to Salmonella

by time news

The Food and Drug Administration has issued an expanded recall of dog and cat food products produced by Mid America Pet Food. The recall now includes over 25 types of dog food and six types of cat food that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The affected products came from Mid America’s Mount Pleasant, Texas production facility. This expanded recall comes after third-party inspectors found three lots of Victor Super Premium Dog Food to be contaminated with salmonella in October. This is separate from a previous salmonella-related recall from the same company in September.

Pet owners are advised to look for products marked with a best by date of 10/31/24 and dispose of them in a manner that prevents consumption by pets or wildlife. Additionally, it’s important to sanitize any surfaces that the products may have come in contact with.

Other dog food brands have also issued recalls for salmonella contamination. Blue Ridge Beef recalled packages of its Breeders Choice #2 log dog food, and TFP Nutrition recalled bags of its Retriever All Life Stages Mini Chunk Chicken Recipe dry dog food earlier in the month.

Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in humans include bloody diarrhea, fever, excessive vomiting, and signs of dehydration. The symptoms generally occur between six hours and six days after exposure. While most people recover in four to seven days, individuals with weakened immune systems may experience more severe symptoms that require medical treatment or hospitalization.

In infected pets, symptoms may include lethargy, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain. The FDA suggests contacting a veterinarian if pets may have consumed the recalled products.

It is important for consumers to stay up to date with the latest product recalls across food, drugs, vehicles, home products, and more with a recall database.
