Ministry of Public Health will benefit from the project on sexual education and prevention of adolescent pregnancy – Ministry of Public Health

Improving life opportunities and preventing adolescent pregnancy in Ecuador is the purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Organon SA The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) will be one of the beneficiaries.

The registration was made on February 23, 2023, in the city of Quito. With this agreement, Ecuador will be part of a cooperation framework based on intersectoral coordination with the participation of the private sector, international organizations, public sector institutions, civil society organizations, and academia.

Among the actions that will be generated from the agreement are: strengthening access to comprehensive sexuality education; the guarantee of friendly and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and the empowerment of adolescent mothers to prevent subsequent pregnancy.

The project will be carried out during 2023 in priority areas of the provinces of Esmeraldas, Guayas and Morona Santiago, where the highest rate of adolescent pregnancy is recorded.

This is one of the projects that is aligned with the Ten-Year Health Plan 2022-2031 due to its contribution to reducing inequities regarding the right to health and living conditions. The Adolescent Friendly Services of the MSP will also be strengthened.

The instrument will apply educommunication actions that will have a positive impact on the Ecuadorian population and that will be used through the Ministry of Public Health; Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion and Ministry of Education.
