Concerned about the safety of older adults living in the commune, the Municipality of Temuco, through its Directorate for Older Adults, will launch this Wednesday, March 23, the campaign “Preparing a Safe Winter”, aimed at preventing fires due to inflammation of stoves. firewood in private homes.

The project, which includes the maintenance of 1,200 stoves and wood stoves for people over 60 years of age in a vulnerable situation, will have its registration stage from today until April 3, with the social evaluation from April 4 to 14, and Its objective is to protect the safety and promote self-care of the elderly in the community.

Confident of the good reception and the participation of the community in this initiative, Mayor Roberto Neira commented: “As a municipality we are busy reducing accidents resulting from the inflammation of the flues of stoves, especially in those homes where older adults and people with disabilities, so we call on the entire community to enroll in this process and to inform the elderly of this plan that we will execute from April, “said the community authority.

The maintenance will be carried out from April 18, and the requirements are: live alone, live with another elderly person or people with disabilities (accredited with a credential), be qualified between 40% and 60% of lower income or older socioeconomic vulnerability (household social registry). Each case will be evaluated based on the information provided in the online form, displayed on the website www.temuco.cl.

Finally, the director of the Municipal Senior Citizen, Javier Delgado Zúñiga, stressed the importance of this campaign: “This is a pilot initiative that seeks to reach 1,200 households of the most vulnerable seniors with mobility difficulties once a year, it is a contribution that will allow our neighbors to partially alleviate their low income and avoid possible emergencies related to the maintenance of stoves or wood-burning stoves that could affect the homes of our elderly people,” he commented.
