The food company based in Sant Joan les Fonts (Garrotxa) Noel has closed in 2022 with a turnover of 568 million euros. This assumes 33% more than the year 2021. The reasons have been, on the one hand, the increase in production that has reached 121,456 tons and on the other, the general increase in prices that has had an impact on the products it makes. The firm, which currently has fifteen production plants spread between La Garrotxa, Barcelona, Teruel and Huesca, employs 2,500 people. The company thus consolidates a growth that is also given by the product diversification strategy, in addition to the commitment to export.

The meat products division continues to represent the main business of the group, with a turnover of 537 million and an increase of 29% compared to the previous year. In addition, it represents the great attraction for foreign markets, which Christmas purchases of this type of product have increased. Currently, the company is present in more than sixty markets and has subsidiaries located in the United Kingdom and the United States, and with commercial delegations in China and Portugal.

The good figures, however, also come from the diversification strategy towards other product lines that Noel has had in recent years. Thus, in the 2022 financial year, Noel has completed the acquisition of Casa Bona, after becoming a shareholder in 2019, an operation that reaffirms its commitment to pizzas, as one of the products that the firm is committed to .

Another of the milestones of the aforementioned exercise was the inclusion of Verday in Noel’s portfolio of brands. Aimed at all types of consumers, the banner brings together all the products of the company’s plant-based alternative protein division.

Less investment

One of the consequences of the socio-economic context has been the fall in investment by Noel. Specifically, this was 37.4 million euros, 35% less than last year, in various projects. The most prominent item, of 10 million, has been allocated to the construction of the last phase of Noel Olot, the cutting plant specialized in the production of fresh meat products, which the company launched in 2021.

9 million has also been invested in the acquisition of new machinery for the sliced products plant and 3.4 million in new storage cameras for products intended for the United States market.

Commitment to sustainability

Since Noel, the more than 14,000 hours that the company has dedicated to investment in training, through the Noel Academy, stand out. At an environmental level, among the various actions carried out in 2022, the generation of 1,068 megawatt hours of renewable energy through photovoltaic installations stands out.
