Number of unemployed in Berlin below 200,000 again after more than a year

by time news

BerlinThe situation on the Berlin labor market improved further in June. A total of 199,345 Berliners are currently registered as unemployed at the local employment agencies. That is about 5000 fewer than in May and also more than 10,000 fewer unemployed than in June of last year. This means that the number of unemployed in the capital is below the 200,000 mark for the first time since April 2020.

At that time, due to the pandemic and the first lockdown, almost 50,000 people in the city lost their jobs within two months despite short-time work. The unemployment rate also rose above the ten percent mark for the first time in years. This June it is now back in the single-digit range at 9.8 percent. In May it was 10.1 percent.
