Berlin – The commission appointed by the Federal Government and the Senate, which met from 2000 to 2002 to develop proposals for the development of the historic center of Berlin, ultimately voted for a building the size of the old palace within its baroque façade; the dome over the west portal, built around 1850 based on designs by Friedrich August Stüler, was not included in their recommendations. The baroque builders had planned a dome here too, but the building was a later addition; It was not until 2007 that the German Bundestag decided on the erection of a dome over the future Humboldt Forum.
