The trial for the death of Luben Sharlandjiev from Plovdiv, who was run over by a truck on July 14, 2021 in front of his brother Georgi, will proceed without questioning witnesses and experts, only Dr. Stella Yancheva, who prepared the forensic medical examination, will be heard. This shortened procedure was requested by Dimitar Lapkov, the defendant for the fatal accident, although it does not imply a reduction of the sentence by one third.
53-year-old Lapkov is a professional driver with no suspended checkpoints or fines on the day of the accident. On the fateful date, he was loading goods on his truck from a warehouse on “Kuklensko shose”. At the same time, Lyuben Sharlandzhiev and his brother Georgi were there with their car. Lapkov’s truck had blocked the entrance and Lyuben got out of the car and walked to the warehouse. At that moment, the truck driver began to move backwards, the pedestrian was out of his field of vision, and there was no one to help him orientate from the outside. So Georgi, who remained in the car, saw his brother being run over, and Lapkov realized that something was going on, he was waiting when he heard shouts. He got out of the truck and tried to help the hit man, the emergency services were also called to the scene, but the pedestrian died.
The hearing of the expert is scheduled for April 25 of this year.
