Polling stations opened their doors today, Friday, to Iranian voters in the elections for the twelfth session of the Islamic Shura Council and leadership experts.

Iranian media reported that polling stations opened their doors on Friday morning to Iranian voters in the elections for the twelfth session of the Islamic Shura Council and the sixth session of the Leadership Assembly.

Yesterday, Thursday, the official period for electoral propaganda for candidates for the twelfth session of the elections to the Islamic Shura Council and the sixth session of the Leadership Council of Experts ended at eight o’clock in the morning local time.

The Central Election Monitoring Committee began its work in the Guardian Council on the eve of the 12th session of the legislative elections and the 6th session of the Leadership Council of Experts.

The Islamic Shura Council (the Iranian parliament) consists of 290 seats. Members of the Islamic Shura Council are elected in a direct vote by the people every four years in 208 single-member or multi-member electoral districts. Tehran constitutes the largest electoral district and its share is thirty seats.
