The fourth generation Padma Bank is going to merge with the private Exim Bank. This decision was taken in the Exim Bank Board of Directors meeting on Thursday (March 14).

According to a senior official of the bank, the Board of Directors of Exim Bank has decided to merge Padma Bank. The matter will be sent to Bangladesh Bank for approval. The decision will be implemented and officially communicated once the regulatory body approves it.

Recently, Bangladesh Bank has made a report titled ‘Bank Health Index and Heat Map’. The Financial Stability Division of the Central Bank prepares the Bank Health Index for internal use based on half-yearly financial performance from June 2023.

Out of 54 banks created as a health index, 12 are in very bad condition, 9 of which have already moved into the red zone. One of them is Padma Bank. There are 29 banks in yellow zone. Three of these banks are located very close to the red zone. Only 16 banks are placed in the green zone. Among them there are 8 foreign and 8 domestic banks.
