Lahore: Pakistan International Airlines, which has instructed its cabin crew members to wear underwear under their uniforms, has caught the tiger by the tail. PIA, the official government airline of Pakistan, has released a new explanation after this proposal became controversial and trolled.
On Thursday, PIA issued a circular to its employees that wearing underwear under the uniform is mandatory. In the circular, the PIA said that lack of proper underwear gives the airline a bad name and bad image.
The proposal has been criticized from many quarters as being entirely appropriate. Following this backlash, PIA issued an explanation immediately.
“There was only good intention behind such a directive to ensure proper dress code, but the bulletin issued in this regard, inadvertently, contained inappropriate wording,” PIA’s chief HR officer said in a written explanation.
PIA General Manager Flight Services Aamir Basheer had said this in the previous notification. “It is a matter of great concern that a few cabin crews dress carelessly during various journeys and stay in hotels, such dressing creates a bad impression on the onlookers. It gives a bad image not only to the individual but also to the organization,” Basheer told the cabin crew.
