Pashinyan’s party lost in local elections for Armenia’s second largest city

The Balasanyan Bloc Party won the elections in Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia. She bypassed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party. In the city of Goris, the arrested opposition candidate Arush Arushanyan wins the mayoral elections.

In Gyumri, “Balasanyan’s Block” gains 36.59%, “Sputnik Armenia” reports. The Civil Contract party has 29.56%. The third and fourth places are occupied by “Zartonk” and the Republican Party of Armenia – 10.6% and 5.1%, respectively.

In the city of Goris, the “Arush Arushanyan” bloc won. The “Civil Contract” got almost half the votes here – 3.6 thousand against 6.3 thousand. At the same time, since July 16, Mr. Arushanyan has been under arrest on charges of electoral violations and fraud.

In Armenia, municipal elections were held in nine settlements. The turnout was 33.2%.
