Pathanamthitta: Kalanjoor village panchayat has given permission for Adani Group’s quarry for the Vizhinjam project near Inchapara, a residential area. The Panchayat has set aside 11.5 acres of revenue outpost for Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Limited for five years. Kalanjoor is an area that has been facing environmental problems caused by rock formations for a long time. The Gram Panchayat granted mining permission to the Adani Group after the local people protested against the padamadas.

As a government project, a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on July 5, 2018 had decided to issue a letter of objection under the priority category. After receiving the objection letter, Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd. submitted an application to Kalanjoor Panchayat. After this was rejected, the High Court was approached. Then the Panchayat gave the license on January 7. After the permission documents came out, there is a protest in the place. It is also alleged that the permission was given without consulting the panchayat members. The Janaka Samithi is of the position that rock blasting will not be allowed under any circumstances.
