The president of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Organizing Committee, Yoshiro Mori, resigned from his position after the controversy sparked by some of his comments considered sexist, just months before the celebration of the expected sports event.

The 83-year-old Japanese man expressed in a board meeting on February 3 that women talked too much, and from that day on, “too much” was said about him and his opinions.

“When you increase the number of women, if their speaking time is not limited, they have difficulty finishing, which is very annoying. The meetings become very long. “They love to compete against each other,” she said at a meeting of the Japanese Olympic Committee.

Its timing could not have been worse, since precisely at this meeting the increase in the female quota in that group was debated, where there are only five women among its 24 members.

Mori apologized for his words, and even confessed that he felt sorry, but it was too late because the rain of criticism had already begun and they forced him to leave his position.

“My inappropriate statement has caused a lot of chaos, as of today I am going to resign from the position of president (…) If I am going to be an obstacle in the holding of the Games being in my position, I think it is a situation that we must avoid,” stated the former Japanese Prime Minister (2000-2001).

They have not yet named a successor for Mori, when the Olympic Games are scheduled to take place between July 23 and August 8.
