Price of fuel, meals… why is it so expensive on motorway service areas?

“Every two hours, the break is essential”, place in yellow letters the gantries of highways. An essential piece of cautionary advice… which also directs motorists to service areas, countries where life is more expensive. The managers of the 363 service areas of our 9221.2 km of conceded motorways are obviously rubbing their hands at this road safety recommendation. Nearly 64 million vehicles travel the network each year, with real peaks like this weekend. And the flow of motorists coming to rest – so many potential and… captive customers! – obviously fills the coffers.
