The Attorney General’s Office has initiated a preliminary investigation against undetermined officials of the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) due to alleged irregularities in an administrative visit to the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.

According to information revealed, the control body is investigating whether the officials of the SIC delegate for the Protection of Competition had incurred violations of due process and violated fundamental rights during the visit carried out on March 14, 15 and 19. This visit had the objective of verifying compliance with the free competition regime in the contractual selection processes of the Foreign Ministry.

It is alleged that during this visit, SIC officials committed irregularities by taking mirror copies of equipment that contained sensitive information from the Foreign Ministry, including extradition cases, judicial procedures for minors, missing persons and refugee requests, putting the legal confidentiality of this information at risk.

In addition, the information on the personal cell phone of one of the Foreign Ministry officials was accessed, which further aggravates the alleged violations of due process.

In this initial phase of the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office seeks to determine the identity of the officials and contractors who participated in the administrative visit, as well as the act that gave rise to it, in order to clarify the facts and take the necessary measures to guarantee respect to fundamental rights and due process.
