Raising awareness and screening for World Kidney Day

9 mars 2023

Libreville, March 09, 2023 – As part of the celebration of World Kidney Day, the Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Dr. Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong, accompanied by his Minister Delegate, Mrs. Justine Libimbi Ep. Mihindou and of the Mayor of the Commune of Libreville, Christine M’ba N’dutume Ep. Mihindou, proceeded to visit the popular screening sites selected as part of World Kidney Day.

Through this strategy, the Ministry wants to raise awareness of national opinion on the dangerousness of kidney disease and its consequences to reduce its incidence. The Members of the Government and the city councilor of Libreville therefore wanted to assess the effectiveness of the information, awareness-raising and screening activities for the population organized for this purpose.

Seizing this opportunity, Dr. Guy Patrick Obiang Ndong Ndong clarified that: “ the Government, as part of the deployment of its local health policy, wanted to reach out to the populations to offer them the possibility of being screened for kidney disease ».

For him : ” the kidney is the filter of our organism which makes it possible to wash away all that there is as impurity in our food. And if the latter is damaged, it can lead to kidney failure, the severity of which leads to hemodialysis sessions. We therefore intend to focus on prevention to prevent populations from falling ill as much as possible. ».

It should be remembered that the 2023 edition of World Kidney Day is held under the theme ” health for all, to face the unexpected and has the main objective of informing the population and public authorities about kidney failure.

In addition to the itinerant screening sites set up in the main arteries of Greater Libreville, the various public and private hemodialysis structures have been selected to receive the populations for screening, awareness-raising and popular information activities.
