RKI classifies almost all of Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic as corona high-risk areas – domestic politics

But not only the infection numbers are decisive for this. Other criteria are the speed at which the virus is spreading, the burden on the health system or a lack of data on the corona situation.

Are you no longer allowed to travel to Austria?

Indeed! But: Anyone who has not been fully vaccinated or recovered and comes from a high-risk area has to be in quarantine for ten days and can only get rid of it after five days with a negative test.

In Austria, the corona numbers have recently increased dramatically. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants was 751 on Thursday, almost three times as high as in Germany (249.1), as the authorities announced. The situation in the clinics is also getting worse.

According to information from the Funke media group, individual Austrian municipalities are to be excluded from the classification as a high-risk area. These include Mittelberg, Jungholz, Rissal, Vomp and Eben am Achensee.

The incidence has also risen sharply recently in the Czech Republic and Hungary.


Austria itself takes tough action

In Austria, a lockdown for unvaccinated people is to be introduced in the fight against the corona pandemic.

The corresponding decisions would be made on Sunday, announced Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg in view of the sharp increase in the number of infections. Unvaccinated people are only allowed to leave their home to meet their daily needs, to go to work or if they need help, said Upper Austria’s regional chief Thomas Stelzer.

The government has also made vaccination compulsory for health professionals.
