Born on August 18, 1936 in Santa Monica, California, to Martha Hart and Charles Robert Redford, as a young man he attended the University of Colorado and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Perhaps not everyone knows that following his expulsion (he lost the scholarship he had obtained because he had started drinking a lot) Redford packed up for Europe and lived by bohemian in France, Spain and Italy. Upon his return to the United States, he stopped drinking and began taking acting classes at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. The rest is history.
