There will never be a compulsory vaccination of schoolchildren against coronavirus in Russia, said Alexander Gorelov, deputy director for scientific work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, during a speech at the Russian Knowledge Society.

“There will never be a compulsory vaccination. Vaccination will be voluntary, according to epidemiological indications, “Gorelov said (quoted by Interfax). He noted that doctors will strongly recommend that children with chronic diseases be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Earlier, Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko said that Russia does not plan to introduce requirements for vaccination of children against coronavirus. Rinat Maksyutov, General Director of the Vector Research Center, said there was no reason to introduce mass vaccination against COVID-19 for children and adolescents.

On July 5, clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine on adolescents 12-17 years old began in Moscow. Volunteers are vaccinated with the same drug used for adults, but at a lower dosage. The vaccination of adolescents from the coronavirus should begin before September 20, said Alexander Gintsburg, director of the Gamaleya Scientific Center. Four vaccines against COVID-19 have been registered in Russia: Sputnik V, Epivakkorona, Kovivak and Sputnik Light.
