Snow chains: How much do they cost – Mandatory from tonight in Attica

by time news

Anti-skid chains are mandatory in Attica from 22:00 on Monday night (29/1) for cars of all categories, by decision of the Attica Traffic Director, otherwise their drivers risk being fined.

Due to the severe bad weather that creates problems in the country, vehicles must be equipped with anti-skid chains or other similar anti-skid means, as long as these vehicles do not have special tires when driving on the entire road network of the prefecture of Attica.

Anti-skid chains are more affordable, snow tires are on the rise

The measure applies from March 2022 and provides for the provision of vehicles with anti-skid means, “suitable for the vehicle” from October 1 to April 30 of each year “and when the prevailing conditions so require”.

How much do they cost

The cost for anti-skid chains starts from 50 euros and can reach 140, while for snow blankets it starts from 50 and reaches 120 euros, as reported by Alpha.

But some drivers who are looking for more drastic solutions for their movement on the roads in difficult conditions, choose to install snow tires on their car. But their price is higher, as it starts from 300 euros for a simple passenger car and reaches 1,600 for jeeps and larger displacement vehicles.

The fine

In the event of an inspection, if a violation is found, the administrative fine is 80 euros, according to the Road Traffic Code (para 26 & 27 of article 81).

Drivers should also:

  • to know how to install and operate the anti-skid on their vehicles, to ensure their correct use and the fulfillment of the purpose of par. 1,
  • to adjust their driving, when antiskids are used, depending on the prevailing conditions and the specifications of the vehicles and the antiskids, with a view to protecting road traffic and safety.

If a violation is found, the administrative fine is 80 euros

In the case of a rental car, if the lessee requests the supply of anti-slip means and his request is stated in the rental contract, the rental company is obliged to provide the appropriate equipment. If not requested, the obligation does not exist.

According to the ministerial decision, as long as decisions are issued by the competent authorities (Police Departments, Traffic Departments, General Secretariat of Civil Protection), for weather conditions that require the provision of suitable anti-slip means, we must have something that carries the relevant approval of the European Union .
