The number of car thefts in Moscow decreased by 93% to 948 cases last year compared to the level of 2012, Mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin said in his Telegram channel. He explained such changes by the launch of photo-video recording complexes.

According to the Moscow authorities, 948 cases of car theft were recorded in 2022, while ten years ago there were 13,000 thefts. In 2012, the first complexes for photo and video recording began to appear in the city, Sobyanin explained.

Almost 4,000 cameras have been installed in Moscow, the mayor of the city specified.

“And in addition to monitoring compliance with traffic rules, they help law enforcement officers trace the route of a stolen car and quickly take action. The neural network automatically checks the cars and their numbers for compliance with the credentials,” he wrote.

At the same time, at the end of last year, Alfastrakhovanie reported an increase in the number of car thefts since October by 25% monthly. Among the brands of stolen cars, Hyundai occupies the first place: these are Santa Fe (14%), Creta (5%), Palisade (5%), Sonata (4%), Tucson (4%) and Solaris (3%) models. Also in the top ten in 2022 are Kia Sorento (5%) and Kia Sportage (4%). In addition, the list includes Japanese Mitsubishi Outlander (6%), Lexus RX (4%), Toyota Camry (4%).

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, over 1,700 thefts were registered in Russia in 11 months of 2021, which is 12% less than in 2020.
