Spanish plants produced 15.2% less in February

The production of vehicles in Spain continues without recovering its lustre. It is no longer approaching the three million that was dreamed of in 2019, before the outbreak of the health crisis, but accumulating months in decline. 2021 already registered figures 7.5% below 2020, a year in which the plants were closed for two months.

for now, 2022 has not started on the best foot. So far this year, the decrease is 15.2%, with 369,053 units produced. Of these, 290,430 were passenger cars (-15%) and the remaining 78,623, commercial and industrial models, 16.2% less.

February’s figures are better than those of the first month, given that they yielded 12.9% -January did 17.5%-, until registering 189,145 units. Of these, 152,080 were passenger cars (-9.8%) and 37,065, commercial (-23.4%).

By energy, those with alternative propulsion —which include electric, hybrid and gas— accounted for 22,100 units, slightly increasing their share of national production to 11.7%, despite falling 4.5% in volume.

Of these, practically all were electrified, with 18,551 units, 3.7% more. They were distributed in plug-in hybrids, with 11,991 units (-1.7%) and pure electric, with 6,560 units, which registered a growth of 15.4%.
