Submission to Parliament of a Bill to amend the Prevention of Terrorism Act

Colombo (News 1st) The bill to amend the Prevention of Terrorism Act was tabled in Parliament today (10) by the Minister of Air Affairs, Prof. GL Peiris.

Professor GL Peiris has asked that the bill be tabled in Parliament tomorrow (11) when it is taken up for debate.

However, TNA MP MA Sumanthiran said that reducing the detention period from 18 months to 12 months alone would not be the solution and that the amendment would not make any changes.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Ali Sabri, who was attending an event in Gampola today (10), was asked about the forthcoming amendments to the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Ali Sabri said that the amendment to the Terrorism Amendment Act was made to help the country’s society and not at the request of the European Union.
