Sudan proposed to change the agreement on the base of the Russian Navy

The Sudanese authorities have proposed to change the agreement on the creation of a logistics center for the Russian Navy in the country, RIA Novosti reported citing a source.

In Sudan, they intend to receive from Moscow “economic assistance on condition of lease for five years with the possibility of signing an agreement for 25 years,” the agency notes. It is noted that Russia has not yet responded to this proposal.

The agreement on the creation of a logistics center for the Russian Navy in Sudan stipulates that the PMTO will be used for repairs, resupply and rest of the crew members of Russian warships. The maximum number of servicemen who will serve in the PMTO will not exceed 300 people. At the same time, no more than four Russian warships can be at the support point.

In early June, the chief of staff of the Sudanese armed forces, Muhammad Osman al-Hussein, said that the country intends to revise the agreement with Russia on the creation of a Russian military base on the Red Sea coast, based on its own interests. He specified then that the document was signed by the former government of Sudan and has not yet been ratified, which leaves the possibility of its revision.
