BOLZANO. A surveyor lost his life in an accident on the Austrian side of Brenner Tunnel. The accident occurred around 3pm yesterday at the H41 Sill-Pfons Gorge construction site, near Innsbruck. The technician who was carrying out survey work when he was hit by a supply train.

The train was transporting materials and workers to the work areas of the main tunnel in the direction of Brenner. Rescue services – according to a note from Bbt Se – were activated immediately after the accident. A large contingent of rescuers, firefighters and police were alerted and immediately arrived at the scene of the accident, while first aid measures had already been administered to the injured person by fellow workers in the tunnel. Despite immediate emergency medical measures, the surveyor died as a result of his serious injuries.
