Surfshark analysts have evaluated the digital quality of life in different countries. Denmark and South Korea ranked first, followed by Ethiopia and Cameroon. Russia is in the ranking almost in the middle – in 52nd place out of 110.

Denmark came first in the ranking of digital quality of life. It was published by VPN service Surfshark, which has released it for the third year in a row. The second place is occupied by South Korea, the third – by Finland. Also in the top 10 are Israel, Singapore, USA, France, Switzerland, Germany and the UK. Ethiopia, Cameroon and Cambodia took the last places in the ranking. The rating includes 110 countries, which, according to its compilers, account for 90% of the total population of the Earth.

The rating compilers rated all countries according to five parameters:

  • internet accessibility
  • internet quality
  • electronic infrastructure
  • electronic security
  • “Digital state”.

“For the third year in a row, we continue to research the digital quality of life in order to see the overall picture of the development of the digital sphere in different countries. This index can serve as a basis for constructive discussions about how the development of digital technologies affects the prosperity of the country and in which areas improvement is needed, ”says Vytautas Kazyukonis, CEO of Surfshark.

Denmark, Israel and Sri Lanka became the leaders in Internet accessibility, by which the authors of the rating mean the cheapest Internet in terms of the ratio with the average salary in the country, and South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and China in terms of Internet quality (having a fast and stable Internet connection). …

In general, in the world over the year, broadband Internet has become more expensive – to get access to it, residents of the participating countries need to work 25 minutes, that is, 11% more than a year earlier. At the same time, to access the mobile Internet, it was necessary to work, on the contrary, 29% less – 28 minutes. The authors of the rating gave the highest rating to the electronic infrastructure in the Scandinavian countries: the first three places in this parameter were taken by Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Greece, the Czech Republic and Estonia are leading in terms of electronic security, and the United States, South Korea and the United Kingdom are leading in the development of a “digital state”.

Russia is approximately in the middle of the rating – on the 52nd place, and in comparison with the last year its place in the rating has decreased by 10 lines. Russia ranks high in terms of Internet accessibility – 11th, while it is near the end of the rating for electronic security (90th place). In terms of the development of the “digital state” Russia ranks 31st, in terms of electronic infrastructure – 45th, and in terms of the quality of the Internet – 54th.
