Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The staff of the Federal Integrity Commission managed to seize the director of the Umm Qasr Al-Shamali customs and two members of the inspection committee, on charges of passing dozens of containers containing materials that are prohibited to be imported.
And the Commission’s Investigation Department stated, in its discussion of the seizure process that was carried out according to a judicial memorandum, that the team of the Basra Investigation Directorate was able to seize the director of the Umm Qasr Al-Shamali customs and two members of the inspection committee on charges of collusion to pass materials that are prohibited to be imported.
And it indicated that the operation also resulted in the seizure of (46) containers that contained (68) “crazy type” cars without the model, pointing out that this was done after an inspection was conducted on them by the inspection committee, who declared them as household items, while the customs director was notified. And the members of the inspection committee by the sonar official that the containers contain cars prepared for smuggling in each container.
And she added that the team searched the floors and apartments of the residence of the defendants who were seized, as they seized an amount of (33,000) thirty-three thousand US dollars, and (3,800,000) three million and eight hundred thousand Iraqi dinars in the apartment of the head of the detection committee.
She noted the recording of the statements of the sonar official as a witness and the statements of the defendants who admitted not to conduct the signed inspection of the containers subject of the case, as they proved that they contained household items without mentioning the cars, and after the defendants were presented to the competent judge, he decided to arrest them pending investigation.
