The Federation of Business Organizations of Girona (FOEG) calls on the Generalitat to provide data to the arguments of the Minister of Territory, Ester Capella, who stated on Sunday, in statements to The vanguard, that the Ryder Cup must be differentiated from other international events such as the America’s Cup. “Hand there are events that do bring added value and others that do not. It is never governed to everyone’s liking”, he assured.

The Girona employers’ association expresses, in a statement, its “bewilderment” at the minister’s statements and consider that “it does not offer a clear and precise view of the reasons why the Government of Catalonia is not providing support to an event of this magnitude”.

Caldes keeps alive the hope of hosting the Ryder Cup

In addition, they claim that “it is particularly incomprehensible that the Ryder Cup is compared to other sporting events, such as the America’s Cup, without providing arguments or economic impact studies to support this statement”. For this reason, the FOEG iurges the Government to publicly present the economic impact studies that justify the minister’s statements.

“A historic opportunity”

For his part, the College of Economists of Catalonia (CEC) held its Board of Governors this Wednesday with the participation of around fifty people at the Camiral Golf & Wellness club in Caldes de Malavella, in support of the bid to host the Ryder Cup tournament.

The Government’s “no” to the third golf course in Caldes makes it difficult to hold the Ryder Cup

During the event, the dean of the CEC, Carlos Puig de Travy, claimed that the competition “is a historic opportunity that Catalonia cannot let lose because of the economic impact and international projection that will give to the area. We ask the Generalitat de Catalunya to support the candidacy”.

“The organization is making a great effort to respond to the Generalitat’s arguments and host one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world”, said the president of the CEC headquarters in Girona, Lluís Bigas.

From the entity they argue that it is estimated that the economic impact of the most media-driven competition in this sport would be between 1,000 and 1,300 million euros, and it would have a major impact on the tourism sector with the arrival of about 300,000 visitors.
