ROMA. The Council of Ministers approved the introduction of psycho-aptitude tests for access to the profession of magistrate. The tests will apply for tenders published starting from 2026, therefore not for competitions already announced. And the competitions already announced will therefore continue with the current rules.

In the meantime, the Superior Council of the Judiciary will have the opportunity to organize itself to structure the new procedures envisaged for appointments. The CSM will appoint the university professors in psychological subjects – on the recommendation of the National University Council, an independent body of the university – who will constitute the judging commission for psycho-aptitude tests for magistrates. The psycho-aptitude interview will take place during the oral test and those who have passed the written test will receive written tests identified by the CSM, on the model of those used for those carried out on police officers, before the oral test. The latter will form the basis for the future psycho-aptitude interview.
