Oviedo’s position is that the club needs more guarantees on the urban planning deadlines before definitively signing the contract with Herce and making the first payment – three million euros through CVC funds –, an unavoidable step to be able to begin all the processing and later works. The blue entity fears that the task will take forever and wants to have the assurance that in a relatively short period of time the work will be underway. In fact, due to this fear, Oviedo tried to include a clause by which the first payment would be returned in the event that the beginning of the works lasted beyond one year.

The club’s position, marked from Mexico by Jesús Martínez, who follows the operation closely, points in any case to a change. Oviedo planned to give more details at the meeting about the sports city project. There was even some infographic to show that was left out. Finally, it was decided to wait, the entity hiding behind the fact that there is still no signature with the construction company and therefore nothing can be considered closed despite all the steps taken previously.
The position of Herce, the company owned by Paco Rubio from Soriano, is, at the very least, a certain disbelief with the latest events around Oviedo. The company has been doing preliminary work for some time with the City Council’s technicians regarding the urban planning process, but maintains that it cannot advance further considering that the final agreement has not been signed. That is to say: for Herce the ball is in Oviedo’s court. It is up to them, the blue managers, they say, whether the project dies on the shore or reaches port. Everything is agreed, although the most important thing is missing: the first payment and the signature. For Herce, furthermore, what has happened is unexpected, the company being a traditional company, used to working with other times. After what happened at the meeting, both parties exchanged calls and messages in which the club expressed calm. Next week, if nothing goes wrong, a meeting will take place that should be the definitive one in one direction or the other.
The last leg of the table is the City Council, which trusts that everything will be fixed. However, behind closed doors, the president’s words about the sports city were very surprising in the council. In the City Council there is a clear political will for the Latores project. In the town hall they have been working with Herce for months to facilitate the subsequent urban planning process, but now they are waiting for the final step of Oviedo. The City Council estimates that once the project is ready, the necessary procedures before building would take between 10 and 12 months.
The atmosphere, then, is calm, with everyone pending the direction that Jesús Martínez points in Mexico. The fear in any case is that everything will break and Oviedo will even explore other options, starting from scratch. “We had other options at the time, there are always options… Latores is our priority, but we have options,” said Martín Peláez.
