The former director of the Mogilev History Museum, Alexey Batyukov, was released and left Belarus, writes Mayday.team.

According to human rights activists, he spent 15 days in the Mogilev temporary detention center, and then immediately left the country due to the threat of criminal prosecution.

He was detained during a KGB raid on December 5-6 on people whom security forces connected with the Mogilev portal mogilev.media and 6TV.bu.

After his brutal arrest, he was interrogated by KGB officers as a suspect in two criminal cases. However, the protocol was drawn up under the administrative article for “like”.

During the arrest, security forces came to Alexey twice for interrogations. In addition, he was forced to call the editor of the 6TV portal Dmitry Solovyov in front of them. The recording of the conversation was later presented as a whole “special operation” and shown on regional television.

Alexey Batyukov served as director of the Mogilev History Museum. Largely thanks to him, it was possible to return the Statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and other unique artifacts to Belarus, human rights activists note.

In 2020, Batyukov was fined for “participating in an unauthorized mass event.” In January 2021, Alexey Batyukov’s employment contract was not renewed.

The reason was that the scientist spoke out against the violence of security forces after the 2020 elections. On July 28, 2023, he was detained and sent to a temporary detention facility, where he spent three days.
