About 126 million years ago, during the lower Cretaceous, a real terrestrial revolution began on the planet. In the Iberian Peninsula, in the area where Cuenca is now located, there was a huge wetland, which today has become an important deposit: Las Hoyas. For 40 years, it has been studied by a group of Spanish paleontologists, headed by Jesús Marugán-Lobón, who have discovered the fossils of a large number of different living beings that lived in that area.
