The Nuria Espert school launches Primary without classrooms

by time news

The 125 male and female students of the first year of Primary of the Nuria Espert public school they will find themselves in September with a lack of facilities when they return to school. The five classes will not have classrooms for this educational stage because the construction tender file for the second phase of the center’s construction has not yet been opened. The works of the school, the second in the Valdebebas neighborhood, began in November 2020 and the first phase concluded with the Early Childhood Education building, which leads its students to begin the new cycle without classrooms for their educational needs.

“They are going to put two classes in the dining room, one in the psychomotricity classroom, another in the teachers’ room and another in an extra classroom that we have left over because this year only three lines (groups) have been admitted instead of four”, expresses a member of the AMPA of Nuria Espert. Last year there was one less line (the maximum ratio is 25 students) due to space problems, which means that 75 new students entered instead of 100.

As a provisional solution, it is planned to carry out adaptation works this summer, such as paving the land next to the orchard, installing a porch or awnings in the patio and demolishing the partitions for a new distribution that partially occupies the teachers’ room, the AMPA room and the principal’s office for a new classroom. In addition, the porch located on the north face will be closed to incorporate two classrooms. This reform will be carried out definitively.

SCHOOL HALF

From the AMPA they denounce that they do not have a gym, library, psychomotricity classroom or a multipurpose room to do unfolding. The file of the project to carry out the second phase of the school was opened in January and was awarded on June 6. From the Ministry of Education they declare that the development of the project is ongoing, so there is no delay. And that the completion project will soon be tendered. However, parents still have no news about it. “Everything depends on the agility that they want to give it”, they explain from the AMPA, since it can take from three to six months.

La Comunidad de Madrid propone dar clases en el comedor del colegio ante la carencia de aulas

In April, the last meeting with the Directorate of the Territorial Area took place, in which the AMPA exposed the insufficiency of the adaptation works since they limit the spaces much more. In addition, they proposed to temporarily transfer the students to another center, but “they immediately retracted” given the incompatibility with conciliation in the case of families with more than one child in the center. At the end of that month, the families sent a letter to the Deputy Minister of Educational Organization and the Director General of Infrastructures and Services asking for the evaluation of different works together with the request to be able to make use, even partially, of the facilities of Primary for the 2023-2024 academic year. So far they have received no response.

MORE THAN TWO YEARS OF WAITING

Students born in 2016 enrolled in 2019 at Nuria Espert, then a school without building, with the promise of starting the following year at its facilities. Finally, the boys and girls spent two years provisionally in the public school Alfredo Di Stefano, almost two kilometers away, until in 2021, already in their third year, they were able to open their own center. With the transfer, the 12 Early Childhood Education classrooms were exceeded with a line of more and an extra classroom had to be set up.

The educational community of Nuria Espert has not stopped moving and on June 10, it held a sports day to denounce the situation at the school. If the tender file has not been opened in September, they do not rule out making a pronouncement again. “The most important thing is that when they start the contracting file for the tender, they resolve it as quickly as possible to start the works,” they conclude from the AMPA.
