The “Diablo” series has a large fan base. But new material is still a long way off. With “The Slormancer” an indie game is now trying its hand at the popular genre. But there is still reason to be careful.
Lblizzard’s “Diablo” franchise dominated the world of action RPGs. The youngest part is already nine years old. Since then, the field has been left to other games.
Curtain up for “The Slormancer”: Here the outcasts fight against the hordes of the eponymous villain.
Like “Diablo” or “Torchlight”, “The Slormancer” is also played from a 2D perspective. Graphically, the game from the French developer Slormite Studios comes up with a detailed pixel style. That stands out from the other genre representatives.
“The Slormancer”: Three classes, countless enemies
At the beginning of the story, players find themselves in a village where they take control of one of three different classes: the mighty knight, the combative hunter and the mischievous magician are available.
To protect the villagers, the enemies led by the Slormancer must be defeated. The hectic battles demand quick reactions – this is the only way to fight the hordes of opponents.
Attention, “The Slormancer” matures with the customer
The journey starts practically at zero for every class. As the game progresses, the characters can be leveled up, the developers promise over 200 different skills and upgrades per class, even for the final version of the game.
Although the game is already well received by many players, as with all “Early Access” games, there is a reason for caution: Some of the planned features will only be delivered with later updates, for example not all chapters of the story have been activated yet. Game errors cannot be ruled out in the early development phase.
“The Slormancer” is available for PC on Steam and GOG and costs around 15 euros.
