Up to 35% of buildings in the Gaza Strip were destroyed or damaged as a result of fighting between Israel and Palestinian factions.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax, this was reported by the UN agency for the analysis of satellite data UNOSAT.

An analysis of satellite images taken on February 29 revealed that a total of 88,868 buildings in the enclave were damaged or ceased to exist: 31,198 were destroyed, 16,908 were seriously damaged, and 40,762 were moderately damaged.

Since January, when UNOSAT last analyzed the extent of damage to the Gaza Strip, another 20 thousand buildings have been damaged. Then the agency reported that the destruction affected 30% of buildings in the sector.

“The heaviest damage occurred in the city of Khan Younis, with a further 6,663 objects destroyed,” UNOSAT said in a statement.

During the fighting, the most affected areas of the enclave were the provinces of Gaza and Khan Yunis.
