The weekly consumption basket for one family of four members will be 3.5 euros cheaper once the reduction from 4% to 0% for basic foods and from 10% to 5% for pasta and olive oil comes into force, according to calculations from a fictitious purchase on the website of Mercadonathe supermarket with the largest market share in Spain.
In total, El Periódico de Catalunya, from the same publishing group as Diari de Girona, has chosen 25 products in a amount and food group which are in line with one basket of healthy products designed by theOrganization of Consumers and Users (OCU)which includes the recommended weekly consumption depending on the size of the family unit, as well as the “guide of essential products for a basket of nutritionally healthy and sustainable quality consumption” of Ministry of Consumer Affairs. Both include foods such as fish, meat or yogurtswhich are outside of this VAT reduction.
In total, according to the prices found on the website of the Valencian supermarket this Tuesday, a home made up of one partner and two children would pay for his weekly consumption basket 122,84 eurosprice that would drop to 119,35 with the reductions in VAT on food announced by the President of the Central Government.
