Laives/bronzolo. An 85-year-old from Laives and a 90-year-old from Bronzolo were scammed in recent days by a gang of unemployed Neapolitans who, with the classic excuse of the “fake marshal”, managed to steal as much as 30,000 euros in jewelery and cash from the two women. the good news is that the carabinieri of the two stations involved, coordinated by the egna company, managed – with the aid of technical-IT support – to trace the culprits, who may have carried out other similar attacks, taking advantage of the good faith of the more fragile people.

The technique used for the scam by the two criminals came to light.

The scam method is known to insiders as the “false marshal” technique. In essence, a person who, qualifying himself as a marshal of the force, calls the elderly person’s home number and tells him with particular emphasis about a bad misfortune, in this case a road accident, in which he was involved (with precise responsibilities) a close family member. At that point the fake marshal calms and reassures the elderly man by telling him that he can help the relative – often a son or nephew, whose first name and age the bad guys also know – because he knows an excellent lawyer to whom, however, he goes paid an advance immediately. Having obtained the old man’s consent, the fake lawyer goes straight to the house to have money and jewels delivered. Precisely in this way, a lady from 1939 from Laives and a gentleman from 1934 from Bronzolo – both alone at home – were defrauded, losing a total of 30 thousand euros in cash and jewellery, which for both also had a particular sentimental value.

The police investigations into the two suspects.

The Carabinieri investigators are reconstructing the movements of the two subjects in an attempt to trace other similar scams carried out by the suspects, whose position is now being examined by the Bolzano Public Prosecutor’s Office. Those responsible are, as mentioned, two unemployed residents in the province of Naples, who had organized a real staging to deceive the elderly, with the aim of grabbing savings and jewels.

The commander of the Egna Seracini company: «In these cases the advice is to call 112 and take your time».

The commander of the Carabinieri company of Egna, Captain Federico Seracini, invites citizens who receive dubious phone calls to take their time and immediately contact the emergency number 112 or to contact a Carabinieri barracks in the area in order to receive assistance. In the case in question, at the end of a detailed investigation carried out with tenacity and professionalism by the soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Egna, two subjects were identified and reported in a state of freedom who were responsible for a hateful crime, «because it exploits good faith of the most fragile people, a characteristic which we regularly find in all scams against the elderly.”
