But what effects can the haze have on the health of citizens who are exposed to this dust cloud? This is how these particles can affect us. What is haze and how are blood rains formed? Haze occurs when the air is filled with very small solid particles in suspension, which usually contain dust, sand, ash or clay. This presence usually clouds the environment, giving it a yellowish and orange color and making it difficult to see and, above all, breathe. In fact, prolonged exposure to this meteorological phenomenon can be harmful to health, as it promotes dryness of the respiratory tract. The fusion of this phenomenon with the passage of an expected rainfall storm can cause mud or blood rain to occur, known for the reddish color that these particles acquire when mixed with water. These showers occur when the water carries mineral dust that ends up depositing on the ground or other surfaces, giving the sensation that they have been splashed with mud. Consequences of haze on health Although haze is not toxic in itself, the accumulation of these particles in the respiratory system can have harmful consequences for our health, caused by the inhalation of poor quality air. This suspended dust can cause dryness in the respiratory tract and even aggravate the problems of patients with allergies, asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or any other type of respiratory disease.
