“Trainspotting” is thought to be a spin off TV series. Here is what happened to the protagonists of the film

by time news

According to the statements of the actor Robert Carlyle to NME, “Trainspotting”, a film directed in 1996 by Danny Boyle, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Irvine Welsh, could soon have a spin off TV series, based on the sequel to the novel. Presented out of competition at the 49th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, “Trainspotting” narrates with cynicism, black humor and not a little complacency the misadventures of 4 heroin addicts who spend their days in Edinburgh amidst excesses, robberies and (often unsuccessful) attempts to detoxify. The film gets an Oscar nomination the following year for Best Non-Original Screenplay. Although the critics split (there are many reviews that accuse the film of being amoral), “Trainspotting” achieved a great success with the public (cost just over two million dollars, grossed over 72 million worldwide) and soon became a cult. Some scenes remain indelible (starting with the memorable opening “Choose life … choose a job” in which the voiceover of the protagonist Mark Renton explains the reasons why he did not allow himself to be seduced by bourgeois life), others are hard to digest (revolting that of the worst bath in Scotland) while the dialogues are sometimes irresistible. In 2017 “T2 Trainspotting” was released, a sequel filmed by Danny Boyle himself but did not achieve the hoped-for success. Waiting for the new spin off, here’s what happened to the protagonists.
